Federal Revenue seizes US$ 7.9 million in merchandise in September in Foz do Iguaçu/PR

The Secretariat of the Federal Revenue of Brazil seized a total amount of US$ 7,948,274 in smuggled merchandise in Foz do Iguaçu/PR in September, which represented a raise of 59% in relation to the same period last year.

Vehicles had the most significant seizing volume of the products in the month. Two hundred and sixty eight were seized, totalizing US$ 2,815,285, which represented a raise of 72% in relation to September 2007. This year the average seizure of vehicles – cars, trucks, boats, VW bullies, vans and motorcycles - is 9 per day. The ones seized between January and September totalized an estimated amount of US$ 24,220,946, a growth of 42% when compared to the first nine months of 2007.

Electronic gadgets also reached an outstanding position this month, totalizing US$ 1,659,367 and growth of 128% in relation to same month last year.

The accrued amount of seizures in the year (January to September/2008) reached US$ 62,887,223 in merchandise and vehicles, a raise of 10% when compared to the same period in 2007.
