Joint operation of the Federal Revenue (Paranagua Customs Office) with the Federal Police seized 3.8 tons of cocaine yesterday, 02/05/2009. They were about to be shipped on vessel MSC Nuria (IMO: 7416911), in Paranagua Port/PR. The destination of the drug would be Spain and, possibly, Romania and/or other European countries.
The estimated amount of this substantial seizure of cocaine in Paranagua Port reaches RS$ 700 million. The cargo was placed in five containers with sawing, originated from State of Mato Grosso, and the export was being made through a foreign trade company from Sao Paulo.
All export procedures were being monitored by the RFB intelligence sector, in partnership with the DPF, since 01/31/2009, due to news broadcast in Romania about seizure of a shipment containing 1,200 kilos of high purity cocaine, which took place in December 2008, in Konstanz Port, in the Black Sea, allegedly originated from Brazil. The estimated amount of that shipment in the black market was around US$ 63 million and would have been one of the greatest drug seizure in Europe in the last ten years.
