Santos Federal Revenue Customs seizes US$ 113 million in merchandise and beats several records in 2008

The RFB Customs Office in Santos beat historic records in 2008, including the seizure of US$ 113 million in merchandise, which is equivalent to the sum of 2005, 2006 and 2007. The tax collection reached R$ 12,2 billion, 47% higher than 2007’s record.

The average amount in dollars by import and export tonnage grew almost 40% in the year, compared to 2007, and the tax credit entries reached US$ 217 million, 229% superior to what was achieved in 2007.

The tax representations for legal purposes, which are addressed to the Attorney General’s Office, totalized 373 suits, where 1,193 people were indicted. This represents a raise in 28% in relation to 2007 historic record.

The Chief Inspector for the RFB Customs Office in Santos/SP, Tax Auditor José Guilherme Antunes de Vasconcelos, informed that ‘there is a good planning for 2009. We have already started the year with new records and extremely intelligent operations with very successful outcomes’.

According to him ‘the FERA – Special Customs Action Task Force – one of the world’s most active, completed 4 years in the end of January and is even more prepared for action’. ‘In the last months personnel training was intensified and new equipments were acquired’, he completed.

RFB Communication Office
