Federal Revenue breaks decade’s record seizing R$ 122 million in merchandise in 8 months in Santos

The Federal Revenue Office in Santos/SP reached the amount of R$ 122 million in seized merchandise in only eight months of fiscal activities in 2008. The total amount of seizures up to August makes of it the month with best performance in the decade, despite having 4 months until the end of the year.

The previous record was achieved last year, when R$ 118 million in merchandise were seized in twelve months. In the eight first months of this year the Santos Customs also reached R$ 135 million in tax credit due to tax notices, when it was possible to verify failure to collect taxes and fines. In this modality the result is already the second best in the decade, being outnumbered only by 2005, when it reached R$ 198 million, yet in twelve months. Until August 2008 the sum of seizure notices and entries of tax credit totalizes R$ 257 million.
